Preparing for Surgery
In order to optimise your outcome around the time of surgery, please consider the following guidance:
- Maintain a balanced healthy diet.
- If you are a smoker or tobacco user including ordinary cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, shisha (argileh) or any other type of tobacco, you are strongly advised to stop or cut down significantly six weeks before surgery and in many instances for a specified period of time following surgery.
- Certain medications may need to be stopped or modified before surgery. This is especially important if you take anticoagulant medication, medication for inflammatory arthropathy (e.g. Rheumatoid Arthritis), medication for diabetes, oral contraceptives, or hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This will usually be discussed at your ‘pre-surgery’ consultation with Dr. Dahabreh and in collaboration with your usual medical physicians.
- Follow any specific instructions provided to you during your pre-operative clinic visit.
